We turn knowledge into orientation

Project Example

Development of a Non-Automotive Supplier into an Automotive Series Producer

We supported a renowned manufacturer from the industrial and consumer goods sector in their transformation into an automotive supplier. Our aim was to ensure production readiness and the initial successful product-process maturity for an innovative component (charging socket).

Background

The client, an experienced player in other industries, had no experience in the automotive sector. This led to challenges such as a lack of knowledge about automotive requirements, insufficient competencies, and an inadequate organizational and project structure. The situation was further exacerbated by an inadequate project PMO and a lack of sustainability in problem resolution.

Specific Task

Our task included taking stock of the situation, planning and prioritizing necessary steps, and establishing a task force structure. We were to coach the client in tracking and applying automotive methods, establish an efficient change management process, and support project management in communication with the automotive OEM.

KBC Solution Approach

We implemented a comprehensive coaching program for automotive methods such as FMEA, Special Characteristics, 8D, and MUP. We also established a robust change management process for both technical and commercial aspects. Our team supported project management in reporting and communication with the client and ensured efficient escalation. We began our work three months before the planned Production Process and Product Release (PPF).

Achieved Effect

Despite significant time pressure, the PPF was achieved on schedule. The escalation level for the supported supplier could be reduced. We sustainably raised the client’s awareness of the requirements of the automotive OEM and anchored these within the organization. Out of 86 evaluation criteria, only 5 were assessed with minor deviations, highlighting the success of our approach. Overall, the transformation of the client into a fully-fledged automotive series supplier for an innovative component was successfully accomplished.
