Launching a program for scalable digital business success
"Digital success" is a buzzword we hear all the time. Putting it into practice, however, is all the more difficult, as a functioning digital infrastructure forms the foundation for efficient workflows. Connecting all departments and units—even across facilities—is essential but often difficult to achieve. This requires standardized IT infrastructures and solutions that, combined with a long-term view of goals and guidelines, form the foundation for sustainable and scalable success.

Background
Our client, a global industrial company, aims to ensure scalable digital success across the entire organization. To this end, a cross-functional program has been established through collaboration between business and IT. The core team, with equal representation, includes members from IT and various company divisions such as production, engineering, and research & development. Together, they aim to implement standardized IT infrastructures and solutions, taking the needs and requirements of the business units into close consideration.
Specific task
The goal of the project is to lay the foundation for scalable digital success within the company. This requires establishing long-term goals and guidelines for all business units and determining how a clear digitalization strategy can effectively support these efforts.
This is intended to put an end to the current uncoordinated submission of requests from various business units to the IT department. Developing a clear evaluation framework for prioritizing and implementing these requests plays a crucial role in this process.
KBC's Approach
To identify and then define the program’s vision and goals, workshops were first held with the departments involved. From these, clear steps and measures were developed to bring these visions to fruition.
Another crucial step was the development of a framework for a global, value-driven portfolio management process. This process enables the joint (budgetary) evaluation, prioritization, and implementation of requirements. It also allows for the continuous identification of optimization and standardization measures to ensure ongoing process improvement.
In addition, clear definitions ofroles, responsibilities, and competencieswere developed to regulate the filling of new positions within the program and thereby resolve the resource shortage.
