2018 Recall Report – An Analysis of Last Year’s Automotive Recalls

Munich – KBC has once again analyzed last year’s automotive recalls. The result: Both the total number of recalls and the number of vehicles affected increased compared to 2017.

The analysis also revealed that two-thirds of all recalls are attributable to premium OEMs (Mercedes tops the list, followed by VW and BMW). In most cases, these involve safety-related issues (engine/fuel supply, axles and suspension, seats and seat belts, airbag systems, steering systems). The powertrain sector accounts for by far the largest share of recalls, at 28%.
