Sustained reduction in quality-related costs
A key challenge in implementing initiatives to reduce quality-related costs is the continuous monitoring of the content, progress, and impact of these measures. Since the benefits of quality measures usually do not materialize simultaneously with their implementation but rather with a time lag, measuring results is typically only possible at a later stage. This makes it all the more important to measure the success of the measures early on and continuously in order to ensure their long-term effectiveness. To this end, we define application, implementation, and impact metrics at the start of the measures.
Background
Our experience shows that in many companies, the continuous monitoring of implemented measures is often not carried out consistently. As a result, the expected success of the measures fails to materialize, and the planned quality cost targets are not met.
To prevent this, risks associated with the measures must be identified early on and countermeasures put in place. In this context, we provided ongoing support for an initiative aimed at reducing quality-related costs at an automotive manufacturer, from the initial launch through to the sustainable implementation of measures and ensuring their effectiveness.

To continuously monitor the progress and impact of improvement measures and address deviations from targets at an early stage, we implement customized sets of metrics for our clients that enable them to assess whether the intended benefits are being achieved. At regular intervals, we were thus able to assess the progress of the implementation, application, and impact of the measures.
This allowed us to identify risks to our client’s goal achievement as early as possible and to highlight the need for escalation in a timely manner. When deviations were identified, we worked with the individuals responsible for the measures on the client’s side to develop possible countermeasures to ensure that all goals were achieved as planned and to prevent the failure to meet targets.
After all action items had been fully implemented, we conducted a final assessment of the benefits. We then facilitated the formal handover of the action items to line managers to ensure the long-term success of the initiative.
