What makes an employer attractive?

How Opportunities for Growth Lead to Commitment
Employer attractiveness refers to a company’s appeal to job applicants and employees. Measures to enhance employer attractiveness include: career opportunities, compensation, workplace atmosphere, team spirit, and work-life balance, as well as company-specific factors such as sustainability, size, growth, international presence, and success. However, what truly makes an employer attractive to its employees can vary greatly.
KBC in Practice
So much for the theory; now let's move on to the practice, because, as we all know, it's easy to talk the talk. The question is what is actually put into practice.
We are interested in the target group of students, recent graduates, and young professionals—what makes an employer attractive to this group? There are numerous studies on this topic. What is interesting, however, is that the results sometimes differ completely. For example, salary is sometimes cited as the decisive factor in choosing an employer, while at other times, this very factor is considered merely a hygiene factor.
At KBC, we believe that it’s not just ONE thing that determines whether an employer is attractive or not, but rather a range of different factors from which employees can choose exactly the elements that matter to them and motivate them.
Most people are familiar with the employer platform Kununu—KBC has an overall rating of 4.77 across all reviews. Just a few months ago, Kununu itself ranked us 7th out of all companies listed on the platform in the “team spirit” category.
What makes KBC special?
At KBC, every employee has the opportunity to contribute and implement their ideas and suggestions. In recent years, numerous events and activities have been initiated and organized by the employees themselves. These have included, for example, fireside evenings, career and alumni days, yoga classes, running events, soccer and tennis tournaments, an employee satisfaction index, project/quality and software training sessions, as well as lectures on blockchain, meditation, and organ and blood donation.
Team Spirit & Events
A unique team spirit and special events make working at KBC a special experience. In addition to exciting projects and interesting work, we place a strong emphasis on teamwork—after all, we spend a few hours together every day. Throughout the year, various events take place, some exclusively for the team and others for partners and friends as well. It is important to KBC that partners, friends, and family members also get a good impression. KBC has a special culture and a unique spirit. Here, you don’t just find coworkers—you find friends.
Flexible work hours and remote work
“The early bird catches the worm” certainly doesn’t apply to everyone. Whether you start at 6, 7, 8, or 9 a.m., structure your day as you see fit, go to the doctor at noon to avoid long wait times in the evening, or use your lunch break to catch up with friends—KBC offers great flexibility regarding working hours and trusts its employees to independently plan and manage their project work time within the team.
Individual support
At KBC, every employee is assigned a personal mentor from the very start. This mentor’s role is to provide the employee with the best possible support along their career path. They serve as a liaison to senior management and a sounding board for day-to-day issues. During regular meetings, the employee’s development is discussed, and they work together to identify what is going well and where there is room for improvement. Targeted actions are then derived from these discussions. Feedback is important—not just from clients, but also mutual feedback within the project team. For this reason, KBC encourages and requires feedback—twice a year, every employee receives detailed feedback from their colleagues. In addition, regular peer feedback is a regular part of daily life.
Additional Benefits
In addition, there are numerous other initiatives that KBC prioritizes. These range from healthy snacks, wellness programs, and employee discounts to sustainability. In fact, a dedicated project team has been established to address both internal aspects (how can we actively become more sustainable and reduce our carbon footprint) and external aspects (how can we help our customers become more sustainable).
