ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Find out everything you need to know about your career at KBC and the application process, and get tips on how to apply and prepare for your dream job.
To get a taste of the consulting profession, starting as an analyst (through an internship or as a working student) while you’re still in school is a great option. After that, you can begin as a junior consultant with a bachelor’s degree or as a consultant with a master’s degree. Of course, it’s also possible to join at higher levels at any time, provided you have the relevant professional experience.
We are always hiring consultants. We always have openings for dedicated talent. Don’t hesitate to apply, even if the job description doesn’t quite match your professional skills or if, for example, you have specific needs due to a physical disability.
As a college graduate, you can apply either as a Junior Consultant (Bachelor’s degree) or a Consultant (Master’s degree). If you have several years of relevant professional experience, you can also apply for higher levels accordingly. However, determining the exact level is not crucial during the application phase, as we can only assess which KBC level best corresponds to your education and professional experience after the entire application process is complete. Therefore, you do not need to apply for multiple levels at the same time.
Please apply online via our career portal at kbc.jobs.personio.de for the position you are interested in.
Please include your cover letter, resume, and supporting documents with your application: proof of eligibility for university admission, transcript of records, vocational certificates, bachelor’s and master’s degrees (if applicable), proof of internships, and employer references.
If you haven't applied through our career portal kbc.jobs.personio.de , you can email your application materials—including a cover letter, resume, and references—to karriere@kbc-consultants.com.
Step 1
During an approximately two-hour interview with various team members from our operational consulting division and senior management, we’ll give you the opportunity to learn about our organizational structure, business areas, and corporate culture. Show us what you’ve got—both personally and professionally!
Step 2
A second interview is designed to assess your professional skills. Depending on your experience, you will either present your own proposals on a predetermined topic or analyze and present a case study derived from one of our consulting projects to a small team of KBC consultants. Immediately afterward, you will receive detailed feedback on your case analysis and performance.
Step 3
Based on the insights gained throughout the process, we will make a decision as a team and present you with an offer. During a detailed discussion, we will explain our decision to you and finalize the terms of the contract with you.
We are looking for people who can bring their professional expertise, combined with personal empathy and just the right amount of assertiveness, to bear on our client projects. You should demonstrate these personal and professional qualities to us. The following tips will help you present a case study:
Take a structured approach: Write down the steps outlined in the task and prioritize them. A results-oriented approach is often half the battle.
Make the most of your time: Use every minute to its fullest and manage your time effectively. To do this, it’s usually a good idea to plan your approach before you really get started.
Read the instructions carefully: Get a clear idea of what is being asked, and read the provided information carefully as well. You might just discover a hidden clue.
Ask questions: Don't be afraid to ask for clarification. This will help you make sure you've understood the question correctly and that any uncertainties have been cleared up. There are no wrong questions.
Visual presentation: Simply standing there and talking is unlikely to motivate your audience to listen to you. Use visual aids to present your findings in a coherent and management-friendly way. In most cases, a flip chart or similar tool will be available to you.
Central theme: Present your approach and explain your findings clearly, following a central theme that runs throughout your presentation.
Presentation style: Present your findings authentically rather than putting on a show, and explain your approach in a logical manner. Address any follow-up questions and assume the role specified in the case study.
Don't be afraid of gaps in your knowledge: If you don't know something, have the courage to say that you'll provide that information later, because you don't want to jump to conclusions.
Keep your cool: It’s not always just about getting the right answer; it’s more about how you approach and present problems. Show off your analytical thinking and presentation skills.
Practice makes perfect: Ultimately , it all comes down to practice, practice, practice. There are plenty of case studies available for you to practice on.
Once you receive a written invitation, please let us know which dates work for you. We will then coordinate these internally and send you a confirmation of the appointment. Any changes can be discussed at any time after that.
We will reimburse your travel expenses for job interviews. Please choose the most cost-effective and convenient mode of transportation. As a general rule, we reimburse second-class train fares on Deutsche Bahn. Please email us your receipts after the interview and provide us with your bank account information.
On your first day of work and in the weeks that follow, you’ll go through a comprehensive and informative onboarding process. You’ll get to know all your colleagues in person—especially your mentor—and have an introductory meeting with each one. A detailed onboarding plan will guide you through all of our company’s practices, services, and internal processes. Within three months at the latest, you’ll be up to speed!
As part of our KBC Academy, you will participate in all seminars, coaching sessions, and training courses designed to support your professional and personal development. We place particular emphasis on consulting skills such as leadership, communication, presentation, and conflict resolution. However, all professional topics related to our practices and services are also systematically covered in varying levels of depth. In addition, we offer continuing education through accredited courses with certifications on topics that interest you personally and will advance your career development at KBC.
You’ll learn on the job how to develop tailored solutions for our clients’ future-oriented challenges and their specific needs. You’ll work in various teams and with people of different personalities. This will allow you to continuously expand your knowledge, both in depth and breadth, which will soon make you the “thinking brain” and “helping hand” for our clients. And it will gradually advance you through the KBC career ladder.
Our clients around the world engage us to develop comprehensive solutions. As a result, temporary assignments abroad are also possible. We make every effort to accommodate personal or family needs as much as possible. In general, the consulting profession requires a high degree of mobility.
KBC supports the personal growth and life plans of every employee. After all, priorities in both our personal and professional lives change, and so do our work schedules. We offer you the opportunity to tailor your work schedule to achieve a harmonious balance between your professional and personal life. This creates the foundation for a healthy work-life balance, ensuring you have enough time for family and personal fulfillment—whether that means volunteering, pursuing further education, or caring for a family member. Whenever operational circumstances allow, we also offer sabbaticals.
We grant fathers special leave following the birth of their child and help mothers return to work—for example, after parental leave—through flexible work schedules and professional development training. In doing so, we comply with all legal requirements.
Our unique team spirit is what sets us apart. That’s why we go out of our way to foster it and regularly organize events you’ll definitely want to tell your friends about. In addition to tennis tournaments, summer parties, trips to Oktoberfest, and Christmas parties, our multi-day team retreats to other European countries help build that special sense of team cohesion. Informative fireside evenings and our weekly rotating yoga sessions and circuit training—led by employees—are very popular.

We evaluate all applicants based on their qualifications and how well they fit into the team—regardless of age, ethnic or social background, gender or sexual identity, religion or beliefs, or disability. Because diversity enriches our company.
Our employees are assigned roles and compensated based on their respective hierarchical level, regardless of gender or gender identity (there is no gender pay gap). Our project teams are organized solely based on skills and are therefore completely gender-neutral.
We take special care to accommodate religious and philosophical beliefs. For example, we provide spaces where guests can retreat for prayer and meditation. We also offer vegetarian, pescatarian, vegan, and halal meal options.
Our work culture is characterized above all by individuality, care, appreciation, and trust. For us, this means paying attention to our employees’ individual life circumstances and providing them with a work environment where they can thrive, tackle challenging tasks, and live their own lives on their own terms.
Our facilities, including the accessible restroom, are barrier-free and very spacious. All entrances are accessible by elevator or at ground level. Supplies such as dishes and office supplies are stored within easy reach.
We practice what we preach: We have been carbon neutral since 2019. This means we continuously reduce and offset our total emissions across the categories/scopes defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol:
- Building: Electricity, heating or cooling, water, waste
- Employees: Business travel, vehicle fleet, food, beverages, and snacks, commuting/remote work
- Purchasing: Supplies, furniture, and IT equipment; external services
- Customers
When we moved into our new office in September 2020, we evaluated every single aspect for its environmental impact right from the start. This includes:
- Our own electric charging stations
- Furniture made from a mix of recycled materials
- 100% green electricity and green district heating
- A well-designed faucet system that provides hot, cold, and sparkling water directly from the tap, thereby eliminating the need for kettles and plastic bottles, including their delivery and disposal.
- LED lights with motion sensors
- Waste sorting, including organic waste
- Sustainable office supplies and promotional gifts
These and many other aspects are part of our office setup. In addition, after two years of hard work on our own, we decided in 2021 to calculate our carbon footprint in collaboration with the renowned ClimateTech company Planetly, in order to identify further measures for reducing it. The sustainability team, consisting of employees from various levels of the organization, also meets regularly to discuss new ideas and become even more climate-friendly.
