Interview with Maximilian Klee – Why KBC is the place to be

Q: On the KBC careers page, we list you as a Senior Partner & DJ next to your photo. How does the consultant—typically dressed in a suit and tie and exuding a professional demeanor—fit with the DJ—recognizable by his constant foot-tapping, the beat in his blood, the music in his ears, and the enthusiasm on his face?

A: Both—consultingand music—require passion, enthusiasm, and a genuine love for what you do. Only then can you excel and inspire others—whether on the dance floor or in a project.

Q: Dj_mata_munich, when looking at your Instagram profile, your huge following immediately catches the eye. You currently have around 36,000 followers!!! But honestly, with your busy schedule as a senior partner, how often do you actually get to DJ?

A: Unfortunately, far too rarely. These days, it’s almost exclusively for friends at private parties. And, of course, at various KBC events, such as our annual company outing—that’s an absolute must on my DJ calendar.

Q: Are there any gigs that have stuck with you?Andwhere would you like to DJ someday?

A: I definitely played my best sets at the boat parties in Passau and Berlin—with 300 people watching the sunset. I was most nervous before my first gig in Ibiza at Coco Beach on Playa d’en Bossa. If I could make a wish, it would be to play at the Nassau Beach Club, of course.

Q: What kind of music do you like/play?

A: Electro, preferably monotonous and dry.

Q: What’s your current favorite song? And which DJ would you like to meet in person?

A: A fellow DJ once said, “There are no old or new songs, only good ones and bad ones.” That’s true. My clear all-time favorite is “Time” from 2011 by the Pachanga Boys—please listen to it loud. I’d probably love to meet Mladen Solomun someday—he also didn’t really get his career going until later in life—maybe he can give me some tips!

Q: Last question, DJ Mata—where does your name come from?

A: It's simple. Mata stands for "Max dances." And I love doing that!
