Sustainability at KBC
We practice what we preach
We have been climate neutral since 2019. This means that we continuously reduce and offset our total emissions across the categories/scopes defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol:
- Building: Electricity, heating or cooling, water, waste
- Employees: Business travel, vehicle fleet, food, beverages, and snacks, commuting / remote work
- Purchasing: Supplies, furniture, and IT equipment; external services
- Customers
When we moved into our new office in September 2020, we evaluated every single aspect for its environmental impact right from the start. This includes:
- Our own electric charging stations
- Furniture made from a mix of recycled materials
- 100% green electricity and green district heating
- A well-designed faucet system that provides hot, cold, and sparkling water directly from the tap, thereby eliminating the need for kettles and plastic bottles, including their delivery and disposal.
- LED lights with motion sensors
- Waste sorting, including organic waste
- Sustainable office supplies and promotional gifts
These and many other factors are part of our office setup. By 2023, we had calculated our carbon footprint—first on our own and then with the ClimateTech startup Planetly. Today, we are working with the Munich-based company ClimatePartner to accurately track our carbon footprint and identify targeted measures for further reduction.
Our internal sustainability team also meets regularly to discuss new ideas and continuously expand our commitment to climate protection.
