Best of Consulting Award 2019 – KBC Wins Again!

Munich– KBC has once again been honored with the “Best of Consulting 2019 – Mid-Market” award. In the Operations category, which focuses on supply chain management, the “Supplier Performance Checks” project submitted by KBC took third place.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of the “Best of Consulting – Mittelstand” awards, which recognize Germany’s top management consultants. Consulting firms across Germany were invited to submit a client project for evaluation by an academic advisory board and a jury.
Summary of the Supplier Performance Checks Project
Using a proprietary methodology for selecting and evaluating suppliers, KBC helped significantly improve key quality metrics for these suppliers.
The sharp increase in the scope of industrialization—which can be attributed, among other things, to the diversification of product families, drive concepts, and rising component complexity—has made it more challenging to ensure the desired component quality. In addition, a high degree of vertical integration with a large number of subcontractors makes it difficult to transparently assess the performance of individual suppliers. Based on this situation, KBC has developed a methodology for the efficient and effective evaluation of suppliers for production parts.
Based on standards, guidelines, and KBC’s many years of expertise, an assessment tool in the form of a questionnaire was further developed to evaluate selected suppliers. In addition to planning and conducting these Supplier Performance Checks, the project also involved documenting and tracking the results. The project involved coordinating approximately 180 client contacts across 36 departments, as well as 20 consultants from KBC and the KBC partner network. The Supplier Performance Checks were conducted at 239 facilities in 26 countries. The focus was on Europe, though the United States, Mexico, and China were also included among the locations.
Transparency toward the customer was ensured through regular reporting and a clear presentation of the results obtained. As a result, key performance indicators for delivery quality (PPM, rework, sorting operations) were significantly reduced. Through the implementation of Supplier Performance Checks, we were able to reduce the number of defective parts, measured in ppm (parts per million), by 16% and the number of rework minutes by as much as 46%.
