Optimization of Supply Chain Management for Vehicle Dynamics Systems at a Premium Automobile Manufacturer

We have realigned the supply chain management in the area of vehicle dynamics systems for a premium automobile manufacturer. Our focus was on preventive supply assurance and the implementation of a cross-commodity approach. The aim was to increase efficiency and improve responsiveness to critical supply issues.

Background

The specialist purchasing department of the automobile manufacturer was increasingly burdened by reactive handling of supply issues. There was a lack of standardization and centralization within supply control. New processes, functions, and roles needed to be implemented to enable preventive capacity and supply management.

Specific Task

Our task included the central coordination and active support of top issues in supply management. We were to assist in initiating new high-critical supply topics and establish a unified data basis. Furthermore, it was necessary to define a standard supply process along with corresponding organizational structures and to empower the organization to utilize the internal system.

KBC Solution Approach

We developed an organizational structure, including resource requirements, which was confirmed by the departmental management. Building on this, we designed the workflows and communication channels for the piloting of the new supply management initiative. A responsibility model with clear escalation levels was implemented to enhance decision quality regarding new critical supply topics. This model was supported and supplemented with newly created templates and standard documents using existing internal systems and relevant interface partners.

Achieved Effect

Through our approach, the standardization and centralization within the supply control of the main department was increased. The new organizational structure and defined processes led to improved preventive supply assurance. The quality of decision-making regarding new critical supply topics was significantly enhanced by clear responsibility and escalation levels. Overall, a more efficient and proactive supply management system was established, relieving the capacities of the specialist purchasing department and improving the company’s responsiveness.
